Next morning i went around the town for a stroll, met a Korean guy who thought i was from Indonesia by looking at the ‘IND’ on my number plate.I mean common, guessing me as an ‘Arab’ would have been slightly close by looking at my face and bushy eyebrows. As i start walking around the city center,I wasn’t much surprised and awestruck by the beautiful architecture, art work and buildings around.I guess i had accepted the fact that this is going to be same everywhere in Europe. But,while i am here i visited below places, where the Ljubljana Castle located on the top of a hill overlooking Ljubljana was a jackpot.Yeah,i am a sucker for the medieval castles and you are going to see more of them in the rest of RR 🙂
Ljubljana Castle – For lazy people like me,there is a funicular ride which takes you up to the Castle Hill but also possible to climb on foot for those fitness freak types. There are tickets including all attractions on top as well as return funicular trip. As i reach at the top,all i could see is restaurants and museums. They have turned the medieval castle into a mall, only the walls surrounding the castle was Medieval :).
But this church and clock tower was totally worth it.The only part which i liked about this castle.
this caught my eye and senses – Dance of the Death
Dragon Bridge – Beautiful bridge with great looking dragons. It really adds to the delightful charm of the city. There were four mid-sized dragons statues in each corner,i decided to capture one of them as they looked same to me.I overheard a guide telling a story about these dragons “It is believed that when an immaculate woman passes here, dragons come alive and begin to beat their tails flapping wings. But, despite the fact that the bridge is already more than a hundred years old, and here a great number of woman have passed, dragons did not come to life. So,they are just there to add some beauty to the bridge”
Triple Bridge – This bridge can be considered as one of the symbols of Ljubljana .Pretty active and busy place, with plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants around.Public toilets under the bridge can be used for quick draw 🙂
Butcher’s Bridge – Don’t know the story behind the name but one of the bridges with art work and lot of locks tied up by humans. They call it chain bridge too, because of these padlocks chained to it.
Preseren Monument – At center of the Ljubljana,This statue is of a Slovenian national hero who wrote the Slovenian national anthem without knowing he had done so at that time.
River Ljubljanica makes the whole town look much more mesmerizing.
One of those old town set up in Europe, pretty and historic looks indeed.
More pictures from the streets.
With this i was done with my errands in Ljubljana,i moved my butt towards Bled and Julian Alps where awaits another castle overlooking the very beautiful Lake Bled. But,before leaving a customary picture.
