Almost one month on the road and the bike needed some pampering, but too lazy to take off the luggage.Found this bike washing center right in front of the Hotel where i stayed. There i met a Albanian fella who was interested to know what’s in the panniers,he suspected that i am drug dealer or mafia (can’t blame him,i got the looks) and was interested to know what kind of drugs i am carrying and willing to sell. For a while i smiled and replied that you can check the boxes at your own risk, all you are going to find is sweaty clothes and smelly socks and those are no less to get a good high 🙂
To reach Macedonia,I followed SH75 from Tepelene which takes you from Permet-Korce and finally to Pogradec which marks the beginning of ‘Lake Ohrid’.I encountered some beautiful roads and landscapes on the way.
First time in my trip i ran out of fuel, luckily i was carrying 10 ltrs as backup. This was the same fuel which i bought in Iran for 20 cents per liter and carried all the way from Iran to Albania crossing turkey and Greece 🙂
As i reached Pogradec i got into a dilemma to stay on the Albanian side or cross over to Macedonia and stay at Ohrid town.To get more clarity with my thoughts and resulting decisions i bought a coffee and sat down at the shores of Lake Ohrid for a while.
Tushemisht border was quite close as compared to Shqiperia. As i approached Tushemisht border, guards advised to take the crossing from Shqiperia side as the insurance was not available on this side of the border. If i remember correctly i paid around 50 euros for 15 days insurance, has to be the most costliest insurance i bought in my entire trip and the Macedonian guards agree that these charges are ridiculously high.Pure money making scheme 🙂
As i crossed border it was getting late and i did not wanted to miss the sun setting down on the sidelines of Lake Ohrid,I settled slightly far from Ohrid Town for 15 Euros per night but what a location it was.As i parked in the hotel I did not wasted time in unloading the luggage from the bike, grabbed couple of beers and jumped into the lake 🙂
Next day i went to the town for some sight seeing, hotel owner told me that there is a Fort in the town.Perhaps she already knew what turns me ON 🙂
Saint Pantelejmon church is a Rare piece of Macedonian architecture, simply beautiful and unique at the same time. It’s not just a church, it’s part of the Macedonian history of early education and knowledge.
And the usual crowd you see everywhere in summers 🙂
Fort was a disappoint but the views of the town and lake was mesmerizing and not to mention souvenir shops outside looked pretty rad 🙂
I came back to the town,it was pretty hot day.Someone told me that they sell some traditional ice cream around the city center area.I failed to locate the ice cream shop, but these statues had me occupied for quite some time.
